TRIAD COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT ORDERS THREE ALL-ELECTRIC MOTIV-POWERED SCHOOL BUSES

Triad Community Unit School District #2 in Troy, Illinois placed an order for three Motiv-powered, all-electric Type C school busesAmeren Illinois, a leading electric utility with a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, will be assisting with the installation of Triad’s charger and charging infrastructure. Triad’s electric fleet will also be net-zero, as it will be powered by a newly built solar system.

Starcraft Type C Electric School Bus

Triad’s new Type C school buses are based on our EPIC F-59 chassis with BMW i3 lithium-ion batteries, built by Starcraft Bus, and sold by Creative Bus Sales. Illinois’ All-Electric School Bus Project was funded by a grant provided by the Illinois EPA’s Driving a Cleaner Illinois Program and Illinois’ Volkswagen Settlement Fund

Illinois has allocated 10% or approximately $10,867,968 to help school districts to purchase all-electric school buses.  The Triad Community School District #2 was awarded a grant of $650,000 in Round 2 of the VW application process.  In round one of the VW application process 2 schools were awarded funds to purchase electric school buses.  Cook-Illinois Corp. was awarded $474,156.25 to purchase two new all-electric school buses and charging units.  First Student, Inc. was awarded $280,165.01 to purchase one all-electric school bus and charging unit.
